Happy New Years

The City Council and staff wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year.  It will be a challenging year for the City as the economy recovers ever so slowly.   We will do everything we can to continue to provide high quality and efficient City services.  As evidenced by this new website, we have recognized that the City is behind the times technologically speaking and we will continue to explore ways to improve both our external and internal operations. 

With the new year comes the beginning of our budget development process for Fiscal Year 2011 - 12.  Revenues continue to decline or at best, in some cases, remain flat.  The City has managed to balance its budget in recent years without any significant reductions in workforce or services.  There are few cities that can make a similar claim.  Based on some very preliminary data, we will be very hard pressed to be as fortunate in the coming fiscal year.   We will approach our budget from a perspective of protecting and maintaining our core services as our top priority and trying to continue, to the extent possible, to provide those "should" or "would like to" services as we have in the past.
