Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us and everyone that works or is associated with the City wishes you all a safe and holiday season.  

We hope that you enjoy the return of holiday lights in the trees along Main Street.  The City's thanks go out to all of the local businesses that contributed funds and/or facilities to make it happen this year.

We also hope that you will keep our Police Department and, in particular, Officer Dennis Colthurst, in your thoughts and prayers.  As has been reported extensively in the local press, Officer Colthurst was involved in a fatal shooting on Thanksgiving morning.  Dennis was not hurt in the incident.  This is the first time in anyone's memory that a Sebastopol Police Officer was involved in a fatal shooting.  This kind of incident can have profound impacts on the people that we rely on to keep our community safe.   It's something that they train for and understand could happen at even the most unforseen moments, like a Thanksgiving morning.  The fact that they train for it and are prepared to deal with it does not make the after effects any easier.  I know it would mean a tremendous amount to all of our officers if members of the public can let them know that they are supported and appreciated.
